Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was an American composer, pianist and bandleader of jazz orchestras. He’s considered not only a pivotal artist in the jazz treasury, but in the history of all American Music.
Blues in Orbit was recorded for the Columbia label in 1959 and released in 1960. The album was re-released on CD in 2004 with bonus tracks including alternate takes and tracks from earlier sessions. This collection of music skillfully captures the essence and balance of a late-night recording session, that was as much a loose jam as a formal studio date.
The Helpful Creative album cover below is a reinterpretation of one of my favorite Duke Ellington albums.
